IN THE PRESS

Car Takes Review: “This is a deceptively deep play. … It’s about life. What do you hold? What in the end is the most important thing to you? Do you enjoy every moment that you’re alive? It’s gorgeous. It’s beautifully done, beautifully directed.”

Broadway World Review:With beautifully detailed performances, thoughtful direction, and a harmonious blend of design elements, 4th Wall Theatre delivers an Our Town that feels fresh, resonant, and quietly luminous. It is the kind of production that lingers long after the curtain falls, encouraging audiences to look more closely at the simple beauty woven into their own daily lives.”

Houston Chronicle Review: “…people are large and contain multitudes, even if those dimensions are not fully appreciated by others in the rounds of everyday life. The first two acts [of OUR TOWN] focus on daily life and the marriage of Emily and George, who are naïve teenagers embarking on a life together. The third act reveals a heart-breaking death, with an unforgettable setting in a graveyard, where those who have died can speak beyond the grave, as in many Emily Dickinson poems that try to convey what could not be said while still on earth.”

Houston Press Review: "Lehl is excellent as the Stage Manager. From an omniscient perch, Lehl tours the audience around Grover’s Corners, down family trees, and through personal histories and eventual futures, with ease. His presence is kind and steady, deceptively hiding how deft Lehl is at controlling the audience’s attention. At times, his hand lands lightly on an actor’s back, giving them a subtle nudge toward their place, and it’s a gesture that mirrors the way he shepherds the audience through the story. Calm, wry, and subtly authoritative, Lehl beautifully sets and maintains the production’s tone."

Houston Press Artist Interview: "Asked why this play is so popular and continues to be performed everywhere, [actor Skyler] Sinclair says: “I think because it’s universal and it transcends time. This play that Wilder has created there is a structure — it’s a play that’s almost like a magic trick. He lays everything out so beautifully.  It’s relatable. And as he’s busy doing all of that and laying out everyday life. The stage manager serves as narrator for the play and brings the audience along with him, she says. “As he’s sketching it out, he’s asking the audience to illustrate it with him.”
